What are cookies?

A ‘cookie’ is a small text file that the websites you visit store on and/or read from the hard drive of your device (for example, a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) via your browser. Cookies also make using websites safer and faster by remembering your preferences (for example, your registration details and language) and by sending the information they store back to the originating website (first-party cookie) or to another website that set them (third-party cookie). Cookies are files of information, including unlimited text content, that are stored on the user’s computer in order to improve the user’s experience of the website concerned. These files allow the user to be recognised and the website to be adapted to their preferences. Cookies usually contain the name of the website they belong to, how long they are stored on the user’s computer, and a unique number.

You can block or delete cookies using your browser or third-party software, but this may prevent you from using certain areas of the website. In certain cases, we ask you directly, through our cookie notice, to consent to the website’s use of cookies.

What are cookies used for?

Cookies are used to adapt a website’s content to the preferences of the individual user and to optimise the use of that website. They are also used to compile anonymous aggregate statistics that help us understand how users interact with websites, which helps us improve their structure and content, without any access to users’ personal information.

What cookies do we use?

Functionality cookies are used to recognise you the next time you visit our website, so that we can offer you enhanced and more personalised features, such as remembering your preferences. These cookies collect anonymous information and cannot track your activity on other websites. These cookies are valid for no more than 2 years.
Analytics and performance cookies allow us to count the number of users and to collect information about how the website is used (for example, which pages a user visits most often and whether they receive error messages on any page). This helps us improve how our website works, for example by making it easier for you to find what you are looking for. These cookies are valid for no more than 2 years.
Advertising and targeting cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you visit and the links you follow. We will use this information to show you adverts tailored to you and your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times an advert is shown and to help us measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. For this purpose, we may also share this information with third parties (such as advertisers). We need your consent to use these cookies. You can manage your preferences for advertising or targeting cookies at any time through your browser settings (see below). These cookies are valid for no more than 2 years.
Social media cookies allow you to share your activity on the website via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. These cookies are not under our control.
Other types of cookies that may be used at a later stage. If we use other types of cookies as well, we will inform you by updating our policies.
Please note that we use third-party services to learn how you use our website, in order to optimise your experience and to show you advertising content outside our website. These third parties (including, for example, advertising networks and providers of external services such as web traffic analysis) may also use cookies over which we have no control. You can withdraw your consent to the use of cookies at any time. To do so, please see the details below.
